Uluberia, Howrah:

In a unique initiative to combine festive celebration with environmental consciousness, the Uluberia-I Development Block under the leadership of BDO H. M. Riajul Hoque, WBCS (Exe), has launched an awareness campaign on Ganga pollution prevention during the ongoing Kali Puja.

As part of the district-wide programme guided by the District Ganga Committee, Howrah, and the West Bengal State Programme Management Group (WBSPMG) under the Namami Gange Mission, attractive flex banners (6 ft x 4 ft) were displayed at local Puja pandals and strategic public locations across the block. The visuals carried messages urging people to “Stop Polluting Rivers, Maintain Ecological Balance” and featured the symbolic Ganga Dolphin, representing purity and biodiversity of the sacred river.

The awareness materials, developed under the instructions of the District Ganga Committee, remind citizens to refrain from immersing idols and dumping puja materials directly into the river. The campaign aims to inspire communities to participate in safeguarding the Ganga’s ecological health.

Speaking on the occasion, BDO H. M. Riajul Hoque said,

> “Our festivals are rooted in devotion and tradition. By keeping the Ganga clean, we show respect not only to the river but also to our culture and future generations.”

This initiative reflects Uluberia-I Block’s continued commitment to environmental protection and sustainable celebration, reinforcing the message — “Clean Ganga is Our Shared Responsibility.”
