A block-level Road Safety Committee meeting was held today at the Uluberia-I Block Office under the chairmanship of Block Development Officer H. M. Riajul Hoque. The meeting focused on strengthening road safety measures and raising awareness among local stakeholders.
The session was attended by key officials, including Joint BDO Lipika Roy, Panchayat Samiti Sabhapati Atindra Sekhar Pramanik, Purta Karmadhyaksha Azizul Islam Molla, Sub-Assistant Engineer Jayanta Bose, School Inspector Suroj Mandal, and the SI of Police, among others.
In his opening remarks, BDO H. M. Riajul Hoque emphasized the importance of regular road safety reviews at the block level. He highlighted the role of the “Safe Drive Save Life” campaign and discussed the need for proactive measures to reduce accidents, especially near schools and ICDS centres. He recommended the immediate installation of speed breakers at high-risk points, particularly in front of educational and childcare institutions.
A key highlight of the meeting was the briefing on the Compensation to Victims of Hit-and-Run Motor Accidents Scheme, 2022, under which victims are eligible for ₹2 lakh in case of death and ₹50,000 for grievous injuries. The BDO urged officials to create awareness about the scheme so that eligible families receive timely support.
The meeting concluded with a call to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and undertake a fresh survey to identify accident-prone zones across the block.
